Cleaners demonstrate in London to demand a 'living wage'
Cleaners at Mitie are on strike and demonstrating in the street in an effort to improve their wages and conditions.
A group of 20-30 cleaners are demonstrating in Fleet Street, central London. Their demands include a 鈥渓iving wage,鈥 sick pay and union recognition.
A leaflet distributed by the strikers says: 鈥淭he cleaners of London are the capital鈥檚 forgotten army of low paid workers. They work long hours doing a difficult job for few rewards.
The cleaners [鈥 want their employers, the contracting company Mitie, to work with the cleaners union to change this. To date, Mitie has not agreed to do this.鈥
The leaflet ends by asking Mitie to 鈥渃lean up its act.鈥
