ICE appoints Brigadier Baveystock to replace Tom Foulkes
The Institution of Civil Engineers has appointed the British Army鈥檚 former chief engineer in Iraq as its next director general and secretary.
Nick Baveystock will take over from Tom Foulkes, who has led the ICE for the last nine years, in January 2012.
Brigadier Baveystock鈥檚 most recent army role was leading the 拢3.2bn Royal School of Military Engineering PPP scheme, since March 2009.
He joined the Royal Engineers in the army in 1985, and much of his subsequent career has been spent in post-conflict reconstruction projects, both Kosovo and Bosnia as well as Iraq.
Richard Coackley, senior vice president at the ICE, chaired the panel which selected Baveystock, and said: 鈥淭om Foulkes, in nearly ten years as DG, has played a central role in transforming the Institution - in particular implementing effective regional structures, positioning ICE as the voice of infrastructure in the media and influencing political decision making to ensure long term investment in infrastructure.
鈥淣ick Baveystock has been appointed to build on this platform, and will also focus on engaging ICE members, sharing the Institution鈥檚 knowledge and expertise more effectively, and importantly, further raising the profile of civil engineering.鈥
