United Utilities waste treatment plant on banks of the Mersey could create 350 jobs
United Utilities has been given the go ahead to extend its waste treatment plant on the banks of the River Mersey in Liverpool by the city council.
The firm鈥檚 existing works at Sandon Dock will be extended into the neighbouring Wellington Dock and will increase treatement capacity to 11,000 litres a second.
Work is due to start next month and could create up to 350 construction jobs.
Mark Walker, United Utilities鈥 principal project manager, said: 鈥淭he expansion of Liverpool as a city down the years meant the current works were beginning to reach the end of their useful life. The new works will ensure we can continue to provide one of the city鈥檚 most essential services for many years to come.鈥
