Two floors of cladding crash into street on 拢7.5m job
McLaren Construction is investigating the collapse of two floors of cladding into the street on a 拢7.5m job for the University of Brighton.
The incident on Sunday night at the university鈥檚 Hastings campus closed the neighbouring street overnight while fire crews helped clear the area and the damage was assessed.
A spokesperson for McLaren Construction, told the Hastings and St Leonards Observer that the company was investigating the incident.
When complete, the building will house trainee nurses and scientists from the University of Brighton.
A spokesperson for McLaren said: 鈥淚n accordance with our strict health and safety policy, main contractor McLaren Construction has carried out a thorough inspection on site with the Structural Engineer.
鈥淭he debris fell within the McLaren site hoarding zone, with no debris encroaching onto the public areas or local roads.
鈥淭he affected area of the project has been cleared and work on site is continuing as planned. McLaren Construction is committed to delivering the highest level of health and safety standards across our entire company.
鈥淲hen complete, the 拢7.5m development in Hastings will provide the University of Brighton with world-class teaching space for nursing courses and a range of new science degrees, plus an additional, larger, lecture theatre as well as a new home for its student services and the Students鈥 Union.鈥
