Architect John McAslan + Partners has expanded into North Africa with the design of a multicultural centre and an archaeological museum in Morocco.
The practice has recently completed designs for a visitor centre and museum in a 拢5m restoration project at the ruined city of Volubilis, the capital of a Roman province 50 km west of Fes in the north of the country.

The firm, which was invited to do the work by the Ministry of Culture, worked with archaeologists from University College London and engineers from Arup on the project. Work is expected to start on site in the next year.

McAslan has also designed a multicultural centre for Al Akhawayn University in the city of Ifrane, the largest English-speaking university in North Africa.

The firm is due to complete the centre in the early part of next year, with construction commencing 2004 and completion in 2006.
