Contractor says 鈥榗atastrophic鈥 failure of part of a piling rig led to the death of a worker on its Maidenhead site
McAleer & Rushe has said a 鈥渃atastrophic鈥 failure of part of a piling rig led to the death of a worker on its hotel site in Maidenhead this week.
In a statement today, the firm said its team had been left 鈥渄evastated by the events鈥 on Tuesday (13 May), when a worker died on the firm鈥檚 office and hotel development in Maidenhead.
The firm described the incident as a 鈥渇reak accident鈥, which led to the death of an agency worker, who was employed by a piling subcontractor on the project.
The firm said: 鈥淔ollowing a thorough site investigation by the police and HSE, initial reports indicate that the root cause of the incident would appear to be a catastrophic parts failure on the tracks of the piling rig .
鈥淭his occurred during a routine maintenance procedure, completely outside of any construction operations.
鈥淥ur entire team has obviously been devastated by the events 鈥 and our thoughts and sympathies go out to the family and friends of the deceased.鈥
