Decision comes after London Legacy Development Corporation approved plans last month
Sadiq Khan’s office has given plans for a £1bn cultural development at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park the stamp of approval.
Planning has been granted for four key buildings as part of the Stratford Waterfront element of the East Bank scheme, along with up to 600 homes.
These buildings will become home to Sadler’s Wells dance theatre, V&A East including a partnership with the Smithsonian Institution, the BBC and a new campus for UAL's London College of Fashion.
Architect Allies and Morrison is behind the design for the residential towers, BBC building and UAL's new base while Sadler’s Wells and the V&A Museum have been designed by Irish practice O’Donnell + Tuomey.
The London Legacy Development Company approved the plans last month.
Spread across three sites on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, East Bank the 4.25ha site will have a bigger footprint than the Pompidou Centre in Paris.
The other parts of East Bank are UCL East, a new campus for UCL, being built by Bouygues and Mace, in the south of the park and the V&A’s new collection and research centre which will be located at the Carillion-built former press centre for the London 2012 Olympics, which has since been renamed Here East after a makeover by Hawkins\Brown.
Last year, Khan confirmed that at least half of new homes across the remaining development sites on the park – Stratford Waterfront, Pudding Mill and Rick Roberts Way – would be "genuinely affordable".
