Boris Johnson calls for radical suggestions on post-Games regeneration of east London

London mayor Boris Johnson has called on businesses and investors to come up with radical ideas to drive the regeneration of east London after the 2012 Games.

Johnson has issued an open call to suggest 鈥済round-breaking ideas鈥 for the use of the Olympic Park after the Games. The 鈥淟ondon Calling鈥 competition is aimed at 鈥渞etaining a flavour of the extraordinary鈥 in east London as part of the Games' legacy.

Speaking in Beijing, where he will receive the Olympic flag on Sunday, Johnson said: 鈥淚 am calling on investors and organisations around the world to come forward and surprise us with startling ideas that can preserve the memory of the Games while creating a new focus for London's eastward growth.鈥

He added: 鈥淲e are looking for the mix of imagination and realism that marks out the truly great ideas and will create a truly great place.鈥

Ideas will be judged by a panel including local government officials, entrepreneurs and mayoral advisers, with the senders of those chosen being engaged by the London Development Agency to work up their plans for incorporation into the legacy masterplan.
