The PM also touched on infrastructure, reaffirming her commitment to HS2 and saying the government needs to take 鈥渂ig, sometimes even controversial, decisions about our country鈥檚 infrastructure.鈥

She said a decision on a new airport runway in the south east would be taken 鈥渟hortly鈥, adding: 鈥淲e will take the big decisions when they鈥檙e the right decisions for Britain.鈥

The PM also called on firms to train local young people before taking on 鈥渃heap labour鈥 from overseas.

On Brexit, the prime minister insisted the government does have a plan for leaving the EU, and indicated the UK could lose access to the single market.

May said she wanted to give British firms the 鈥渕aximum freedom鈥 to trade and to give British firms the 鈥渕aximum freedom鈥 to trade with and operate within the single market.

But she added: 鈥淟et鈥檚 state one thing loud and clear: we are not leaving the European Union only to give up control of immigration all over again.鈥

On sustainability, the PM said the UK would ratify the Paris climate change agreement.
