Construction minister Nick Raynsford told a seminar on the future of the industry this week that clients were demanding innovative and sustainable products, as well as new management systems and a better health and safety record.
He said: 鈥淲e are working in a business environment that is experiencing a period of turbulence and rapid change.鈥
Raynsford added that the government was willing to work with the materials industry to set up a strategic agenda to address these issues, but emphasised that action was required by October next year.
The London seminar was organised to launch a report on the sector commissioned by the DETR and the Construction Products Association. Written by Davis Langdon & Everest, the study is called The Structure, Conduct and Performance of the Construction Materials Sector.
