Architect experiences rapid growth in India but sees Chinese expansion halted
Profit at architect Make more than doubled last year amid strong growth in India but a decline in work in China.
In its accounts for the calendar year 2012, the firm said pre-tax profits at the business rose 166% to 拢482,000 with turnover slipping 1% to 拢14.5 million.
The accounts said workload in India had risen more than tenfold from 拢60,000 the previous year to 拢778,000.
Make, led by Ken Shuttleworth, is working on two residential schemes in Mumbai.
He said: 鈥淚ndia is potentially huge. The anticipated growth expectations in the construction sector over the next 15 years are enormous.鈥
However, turnover in the rest of Asia shrank by 48% to 拢1.4 million with a number of stalled jobs in China blamed by the firm for the decline.
Make鈥檚 turnover in the UK rose 9% to 拢11.6m in 2012 on the back of commercial schemes in the capital including Broadgate in the City of London.
The highest paid director, who is not named, received just under 拢706,000.
