Project includes 247 build-to-rent units and 658 student beds
Mace has submitted a planning application to the city council for a mixed-use residential and student development in the centre of Sheffield.
The plans include making the grade II listed Cementation furnace, which dates from 1848 and is the only example of this type of steel making furnace to survive in the UK, a focal point of the development.
The residential element of the project includes 247 build-to-rent units, made up of studios, one-bed and two-bed flats.
There student accommodation scheme will provide 658 student beds, including studios, cluster flats and townhouses, which also benefit from dedicated, private open space.
It has been designed by Jefferson Sheard Architects, while CBRE has advised Mace on planning.
The site is close to Sheffield university鈥檚 main campus.
The new scheme is the latest in Mace鈥檚 student development portfolio which will see the firm build more than 2,000 student beds in the next three years at sites including Cardiff, Exeter and Oxford.
