Firm says appointment will grow work in Asia Pacific

Mace has brought in a director from CBRE to head up its data centre business in Asia Pacific.

The firm鈥檚 consulting arm has appointed Chris Wallace as its head of data centres and critical facilities.

He worked on the first Microsoft Greenfield new build data centre in Singapore and helped grow Turner & Townsend鈥檚 business in Singapore and Malaysia before moving on to CBRE working on data centres in Singapore, China and Taiwan.

Mace said it has been growing its consulting business in the region in places such as Singapore, the Philippines and Vietnam and last year took a majority stake in Philippines firm Tenman Project Management.

Wallace has been working in data centres since the early 2000s and Davendra Dabasia, Mace鈥檚 managing director for International Consultancy, said: 鈥淐hris brings unparalleled data centre expertise to our business both in terms of in-depth engineering and practical project delivery experience. As a senior leader he will be instrumental in growing our business and nurturing our talent.鈥

Last week, Mace said a booming consultancy business helped lift it to a record pre-tax profit last year.

The firm said consult鈥檚 revenue grew 7% last year to 拢366m with the business expected to post 20% growth this year to take turnover close to 拢450m.

Mace wants consult鈥檚 turnover to be 拢500m by 2026 under a five year plan but group chair and chief executive Mark Reynolds said the figure could be reached two years early and was likely to end up north of 拢550m.

Consult now employs 4,700 people at Mace 鈥 around two-thirds of its group staff 鈥 a rise of more than 80% from the 2,600 it employed just two years ago.
