Contractor Mace has won a delivery partner contract for 拢1bn-plus 15,600-home residential scheme in St Petersburg.

The 780,000 sq metre development, commissioned by SPb Renovation, also includes three schools, five kindergartens, a polyclinic, and supporting infrastructure.

Mace鈥檚 appointment to the scheme, dubbed the Gutenborg project, follows two previous commissions from SPb Renovation last year.

Mace will take on a full delivery partner role, involving project management, design management, cost management, construction management and technical supervision.

Mace director Rob Ewen, said the project - which will provide new homes for some 25,000 people - would 鈥渋nspire change鈥 in the city鈥檚 residential offer.

Mace said that a standardized set of components, mirroring the chassis approach taken in the automotive industry and developed by design and technology company Bryden Wood, would be used by the various plot architects to produce site-specific detailed designs for the project.

It said the approach would allow costs to be dramatically reduced while maintaining high quality levels.

SPb Renovation has a 22-project programme aimed at rehousing a significant proportion of St Petersburg鈥檚 population from old, neglected housing into modern homes.
