New visualisations released of revamped station
Transformation plans for London Bridge station have taken a major step forward after design proposals were given the go ahead by Southwark council.
Southwark council鈥檚 planning committee passed a resolution to grant planning permission on 20 December 2011. Formal planning consent is expected early in 2012.
The London Bridge revamp includes a new platform layout, new entrances and the creation of Britain鈥檚 largest station concourse. The plans are a key part of Network rail鈥檚 拢6bn Thameslink programme.
David Higgins, Network Rail鈥檚 chief exectutive, said: 鈥淟ondon Bridge is one of the busiest stations in the country and this investment is vital for passengers who want more space, less congestion and better services.
鈥淥ur proposals will breathe life back into London鈥檚 oldest rail terminus and help build on the programme of regeneration along the South Bank and Bankside.
鈥淚t will provide a focal point for the local communities it serves as well as the tens of millions of passengers who use it every year.
鈥淲e are grateful for the support we鈥檝e received and will continue to work closely with our partners and the local authority to deliver the project efficiently and considerately over the coming years.鈥
