Architect Levitt Bernstein has won an international design competition for 221 homes in Straelen, a town near D眉sseldorf, west Germany.
The practice was one of seven shortlisted designers that submitted proposals in March and presented schemes to a panel last week. Competition coordinator ISP Project Managers worked with the judges, which included Straelen council and the site owners. The coordinator is due to meet the winning team next month.

The scheme centres on the redevelopment of an 8.4 ha site in the south of the town, and will consist of housing and community facilities.

Levitt Bernstein's design made use of four existing routes that intersect at an original auction hall to create four distinct quarters in the centre of the town.
