Consortium led by Laing O'Rourke is announced as Olympic delivery partner
A consortium including Laing O’Rourke has won a surprise victory in the race for the Olympic delivery partner, the biggest Olympic contract up for grabs worth hundreds of millions of pounds.
CLM, the Laing O’Rourke consortium which also includes CH2M Hill and Mace has beaten off competition from US giant Bechtel which had been the favourite to win.
The decision was confirmed at a press conference held by the Olympic Delievery Authority at Canary Wharf at 2.30pm this afternoon.
David Higgins, chief executive of the ODA, said: "The winning team pairs the best of British industry with one of the world's largest engineering firms...We undertook a rigorous evaluation process of all four of the high quality shortlisted bids across a range of technical and commercial criteria, and we recognise the effort all the teams put in to this process. CLM came out best."
CLM won at the expense of two other consortiums. The first, G3, comprised Faithful + Gould, Gleeds (backed by Sir Steve Redgrave), Amec, Balfour Beatty and Jacobs Babtie.
The second, Legacy, included Franklin + Andrews, Capita Symonds, Bovis Lend Lease and Kellogg Brown & Root.
