Construction completed on 拢160m Guy鈥檚 Hospital cancer centre
Laing O鈥橰ourke has completed construction on a 拢160m cancer centre at Guy鈥檚 Hospital in London.
The 14-storey building was handed over by the contractor to Guy鈥檚 and St Thomas鈥� NHS Foundation Trust on Monday.
The project will now move into the fit-out phase and is expected to be open to patients in the autumn.
It will be fitted out with medical equipment which will include six linear accelerators 鈥� the first radiotherapy machines in Europe to treat patients above ground.
The new cancer centre will bring together most treatment into one building 鈥� currently cancer care is provided in 13 different locations in eight different buildings on the St Thomas鈥� Hospital and Guy鈥檚 Hospital sites.
The centre will also include an Innovation Hub, which will be the focal point for cancer researchers from King鈥檚 College London, and a drop-in information and support service for cancer patients and their families.
The project was designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners and specialist healthcare architect Stantec.
Arup provided design engineering services, while main contractor Laing O鈥橰ourke built the cancer centre and led the project team.
