Crossrail awards construction contract for Liverpool Street Station to Laing O鈥橰ourke
Laing O鈥橰ourke has bagged the 拢300m main construction contract for the Crossrail Liverpool Street Station project.
The contractor was awarded the 拢300m contract for the station, which will be located below existing Liverpool Street and Moorgate stations and Finsbury Circus.
The station will also include two new ticket halls, Broadgate in the east and Moorgate in the west, for passengers to access Crossrail trains at Liverpool Street Station.
At the eastern end of the Liverpool Street Crossrail station, a new Crossrail ticket hall will be constructed beneath Liverpool Street close to the Broadgate development.
At the western end, a new ticket hall will be built by expanding the existing Moorgate station ticket hall.
Laing O鈥橰ourke beat off competition from a Balfour Beatty-Morgan Sindall-Vinci joint-venture; a Costain-Skanska joint-venture and a Dragados-Sisk joint venture.
Before the construction can commence, evacuation of a 16th century burial ground must take place with excavation of up to 4,000 human remains.
Crossrail Programme Director Andy Mitchell said: 鈥淎s with the Paddington, Farringdon and Whitechapel contracts, high quality bids were received for Liverpool Street station. The main construction contract for Tottenham Court Road station will be the next to be awarded in mid-2012.鈥
