Ken Livingstone will publish a report proposing new planning rules to protect smaller venues within two weeks.

Famous London venues such as The Spitz at Spitalfields Market and Hammersmith Palais have had to close over the past few months.

Currently the Astoria in Soho and the Electric Ballroom in Camden are struggling against transport development plans, which would see them make way for Crossrail and a new Tube station.

A spokesperson for the Mayor said: 鈥淭he Mayor has asked his planning advisors to develop guidance on how the future of the sector might be secured, including established venues and new developments.

"He has been working with the government to ensure this issue is integrated into its forthcoming discussion paper on live music venues.鈥
