Slick new website attempts to debunk myth that judges are fusty old technophobes.

Judges in England and Wales have finally joined the Internet age by launching their own website.

The website aims to inform the public about the work of judges and to challenge the stereotypical image of elderly, middle-class, white men who are out of touch with the real world and who are soft on criminals.

The website www.judiciary.gov.uk contains a myth-busting quiz, a video interview with the Lord Chief Justice, Lord Phillips, as well as lists of judges and information on how you should address a High Court or circuit judge in court .

The launch coincides with constitutional changes that take effect from today. Under the changes, designed to ensure judicial independence, the Lord Chief Justice takes over as head of the judiciary from the Lord Chancellor.
