Consultants work with Gladedale Consortium on Peterborough zero carbon scheme
Inbuilt Consulting and Ecofirst Consult will provide sustainability advice to the Gladedale Consortium as part of its bid to build a zero carbon community in Peterborough.
The specialist green consultants will help the consortium, which includes housebuilder Gladedale Group and sustainable developer Cornhill Estates, decide the overall energy strategy for the redevelopment of Phase 1 of Peterborough鈥檚 South Bank.
This is the second of English Partnership鈥檚 (EP) Carbon Challenge sites.
The site is expected to deliver 450 homes, all specified to the highest level (level 6) of the Code for Sustainable Homes.
Inbuilt chief executive David Strong said it will allow the firm to showcase the best low-energy, low-cost ways to heat, cool, ventilate and illuminate the next generation of new homes.
The consultant will focus on site-wide heat and power options, including renewable technologies.
He added: 鈥淲e are looking to create substantial savings in the cost of the buildings鈥 fabric and services through climate-responsive design principles and designing out unnecessary technical complexity.
鈥淲e will also be advising on the wider community aspects of sustainable new developments.鈥
Paul Lemar, land and planning director for Gladedale Special Projects Division, said: 鈥淭he Carbon Challenge provides us with an opportunity to explore the potential of achieving zero carbon living in an economically viable manner prior to it becoming mandatory.鈥
The Gladedale Consortium, which was shortlisted together with five other companies, will be submitting its bid in April.
EP will announce the winner in the summer.
Postscript
The Carbon Challenge is being delivered by EP on behalf of the Department of Communities and Local Government with the principle aim of accelerating the housebuilding industry鈥檚 response to climate change.
