Grade II-listed building was finished in 1970

Oxford city council has approved plans by heritage specialist Purcell to revamp a grade II-listed building at Oxford university鈥檚 St Antony鈥檚 College.

The Hilda Besse building was completed in 1970 by John Partridge who worked for post-war architecture practice HKPA. It was given listing status 10 years ago.

It is the first time the building, which won an RIBA and Concrete Society award a year after it opened, will have been given a large-scale revamp.

Work will involve cleaning and repairing the exterior while octagonal ceiling rafts will be reinstated.

The proposal also includes plans to re-landscape the college quad, in collaboration with landscape architect Churchman Thornhill Finch.

The wider project team includes Ridge as QS, Bidwells as project manager and planning consultant and AKS Ward as the structural engineer. Sandberg is concrete consultant.
