Firefighters tackling a fire in the Royal Clarence Hotel, Exeter, last weekend.

Demolition work began this week on what remains of what is thought to be Britain鈥檚 oldest hotel.

The 18th-century building in Exeter city centre was gutted when a blaze spread from an adjacent building last Friday morning.
