BRE and ITM Power team up to develop clean energy for homes
Clean fuel specialist ITM Power has signed an agreement with BRE to develop hydrogen energy systems for homes.
The two organisations are aiming to develop building integrated systems to meet the energy demands for power, space and domestic hot water heating as well as cooking.
These will be met by combining renewable power, electrolysis and hydrogen energy storage. As well as producing zero carbon designs it is hoped that a demonstration home will be built to showcase the technologies.
Martin Watson, development director of BRE, said: 鈥淲e are pleased to be working with ITM Power on the development of this exciting new approach for achieving zero carbon homes. It is important that the building industry considers decarbonisation pathways based on renewable hydrogen and ITM Power鈥檚 expertise and technology in this area will be essential to that process鈥.
ITM Power鈥檚 electrolyser and fuel cell technologies are able to convert renewable energy to a clean fuel that can be stored for use in transport, residential and industrial applications.
