Overseas turnover in first quarter eclipses that from France

Vinci said work ramping up on its two HS2 contracts helped send overseas revenue at the French giant’s contracting arm up by a quarter in the first three months of the year.

The firm is working on a tunnels contract in the Midlands with joint venture partner Balfour Beatty, with the pair also teaming up to build a new station for the railway at Old Oak Common in west London.

In a trading update, Vinci said road and rail jobs in Canada, Australia and New Zealand also boosted revenue which was up to €3.1bn (£2.6bn) in the first quarter.

Just over half of the firm’s €6bn (£5bn) construction turnover during the period was from its overseas work, the firm added.
