Turnover at French giant鈥檚 contracting arm tops 拢18bn in first nine months of year
Work on contracts such as HS2 helped send the amount of international revenue at Vinci鈥檚 construction business to more than half of its total for the first nine months of the year.
In a trading update, the French giant, which also has an airports and energy business, said group income was up 26% to 鈧45.2bn (拢39bn) during the period.
Its largest division is its construction arm where turnover was up 12% to 鈧21.5bn (拢18.6bn) in the nine months to the end of September.
Overseas revenue at construction was up 19% to 鈧11.7bn (拢10.1bn), a total of 54% of the division鈥檚 income. It said the rise had been driven by the ramp up of larger contracts such as its HS2 schemes at Old Oak Common station in west London and tunnelling work near Birmingham.
It said several overseas rail and road schemes in the US, Australia and New Zealand had also helped with the rise.
Construction鈥檚 order book was flat at 鈧33.6bn (拢29.1bn) which Vinci said was the equivalent of 14 months of business.
