The government is at 鈥渟ignificant risk鈥� of missing its housebuilding targets because of a shortage of skilled planners, a committee of MPs was due to announce yesterday.

The report, by the Communities and Local Government committee, was expected to find there was a 鈥渄rastic shortage of planning officers鈥�, which would affect 46% of local authority posts by 2012. It says the system is 鈥渦nable to manage the volume or variety of tasks required by 2020鈥�.
