Bromford plans to build hundreds of offsite homes over the next four years

Modular housebuilders are competing for places on a £50m offsite housing framework launched yesterday by housing association Bromford.

Firms have until 1 October to apply to participate in the four-year framework, which will be used to procure alternatives to traditional housing at both small and larger sites. The framework includes two categories of offsite housing.

The first is light gauge steel and cross-laminated timber homes built in a factory and delivered to site as a complete unit. The second is the same type of factory-built housing but delivered to site in a partially-complete state, with external facades added after assembly.

Bromford said it plans to build 50 of the homes in the first year of the framework and between 100 and 200 in the second and third years. It estimated that the plan would see £7m spent in the first year and up to £50m in the third.

The £266m-turnover affordable housing provider is one of the largest in the country, with almost 45,000 homes across central and south-west England.

The firm is one of 31 housebuilders to have been to build affordable housing over the next five years. It was given nearly £240m from the quango to build 4,000 homes.
