Architect wins planning for second luxury hotel scheme at Hyde Park Corner
Hopkins鈥 plans to revamp the 31-storey Park Lane Hilton have been approved by Westminster council.
The extensive refurbishment and redevelopment of the 101m-high London landmark, which was the capital鈥檚 tallest building when it opened in 1963, will see the top storeys converted into flats.
The hotel will be expanded, despite this, because the car park will be scaled back and a new building added at the foot of the tower.
The existing rear podium, which contains the ballroom, will be partially demolished and an entirely new building will be erected on Stanhope Row to provide serviced apartments. This will open up a brand new public space where the current podium is situated.
Robert Davis, deputy leader of Westminster council, said: 鈥淭his landmark hotel in central London will be given a new lease of life by these exciting plans and will be a major improvement on the current buildings which are looking a little tired.
鈥淭he appealing design reflects our drive for quality buildings and attractive open spaces as we strive to maintain central London as a world-class destination of choice
Hopkins has also won planning for a luxury hotel on the other side of Hyde Park Corner, to replace a post-war office building.
