Architects on shortlist of seven competing to design extension to super-hospital
Two UK architects are set to battle it out in an international competition to design a 拢112m extension to a super-hospital in Denmark.
HOK and BDP are on a shortlist of seven teams competing to build the new section of the Hvidovre Hospital in Copenhagen, worth DKK1.04bn.
The Hvidovre Hospital is one of four district hospitals in the region and currently totals 300,000sqm.
The 30,800sqm extension will include the emergency department, maternity and children鈥檚 facilities and the cardiology department.
Andrew Barraclough, director at HOK, said 鈥淭his is an important project for the local community in Copenhagen and forms part of Denmark鈥檚 major investment in its healthcare infrastructure.鈥
HOK are teamed with engineer Buro Happold, consultant Core Five, Danish architect Mikkelsen Arkitekter and Danish engineer Spangenberg and Madsen. BDP is teamed with Danish architect Arkitektfirmaet.
The shortlist also contains a consortium led by Danish engineer Ramboll.
The other teams are led by Danish architects Christensen og Co. Arkitekter; C.F. M酶ller; aarhus arkitekterne and international multidisciplinary consultant Niras.
A winner is due to be announced in late 2013.
