Steve Hindley, Midas group chairman, has been awarded a CBE for services to the construction industry in this week鈥檚 New Year鈥檚 Honours List.

Hindley was one of several industry professionals in the list, with CBEs for representatives from Laing 翱鈥橰辞耻谤办别, Redrow, the Tulloch Group and the public sector.

Hindley, who is a member of 好色先生TV鈥檚 editorial advisory board, said he was 鈥渄elighted鈥 with the honour.

He said: 鈥淚t was a surprise, as these things always are. But the most important thing is that it reflects on what all the guys and the girls at Midas have been trying to do for the past few years.鈥

CBEs were given to John Savage, executive chair of Business West for his contribution to business and regeneration in the South-west, and Alistair Arkley, former chair of the Tees Valley Partnership, for services to regeneration in the North-east.

David Sutherland, chair of the Tulloch Group, and Anthony Edwards, head of buildings and estates management at the Home Office, also gained the honour, as did Marcus Binney, the founder and president of lobbying group Save Britain鈥檚 Heritage.

OBEs were also handed to industry figures: Robert Higgs, chief executive of the Heating and Ventilating Contractors鈥 Association, was honoured for services to the environment; Paul Pedley, Redrow executive deputy chairman, was recognised for services to business in Wales; and Servite Houses chair Marta Phillips gained the title for services to social housing.

OBEs also went to Peter White, former secretary of the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales, for services to heritage and Roy Adams, Laing O鈥橰ourke executive director, for services to economic development. An MBE went to Pankaj Patel of Patel Taylor Architects for services to architecture.
