Firms have until middle of next month to register interest in mammoth schemes
Highways England has started the race for two deals worth £1.9bn for approach roads to the new Lower Thames Crossing.
The design and build contract for roads on the Kent side of the river is worth £600m, with those for the Essex side valued at £1.3bn.
The contract for the Kent side of the tunnel includes connecting the A2/M2 corridor via a multi-level junction close to the tunnel’s southern portal. Other work includes widening the existing A2 and a redesigned Gravesend East junction.
Work on the Essex side will involve building a stretch road north of the tunnel’s northern portal and continuing for 12.7km to a junction with the M25.
Highways England is looking to shortlist up to four firms or joint ventures for each lot.
