Herzog & de Meuron has revealed that it is to be commissioned for two projects in the UK.

One is a mixed-use scheme in London and the other will be a non-Olympic-related sports scheme outside London.

Jacques Herzog, founding partner, said the wins were particularly welcome because they were in the UK. He said: 鈥淏ritain is the one country where, so far, commissions haven鈥檛 come so easily like everywhere else. But that has recently changed and we have quite a few new commissions in the future. Nothing is signed, but it will be visible and interesting work. It will be public and private projects.

He added: 鈥淚t鈥檚 not another museum. One is housing and commercial on a very large scale in London and the other is in the sport world.鈥

The news comes as the firm received the RIBA Royal Gold medal for lifetime services to architecture.

Observers have speculated that the firm may be working on plans for the national indoor sports arena or velodrome for Glasgow鈥檚 2014 Commonwealth Games bid.
