Developer plans two phase leisure-led development next to its WestQuay shopping centre
Developer Hammerson has submitted a planning application for 89,000 m2 a leisure-led development in Southampton alongside the city鈥檚 WestQuay shopping centre.
The 拢70m development, called Watermark WestQuay, has been designed by architect Acme. The first phase of the development includes a cinema, 15 restaurants, retail space and new public space along the historic walls of the city.
The second phase would include a residential tower, hotel, offices and more restaurants.
Guy Wells, development manager for Hammerson, said he hoped to gain planning permission for the development this year.
He added: 鈥淲atermark WestQuay will significantly improve the town鈥檚 leisure offer and night time economy.鈥
The development sits alongside the city鈥檚 76,200m2 WestQuay shopping centre, which is jointly owned by Hammerson and GIC Real Estate, the real estate investment arm of the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation.
