Grimshaw has been appointed to design a second terminal and air traffic control tower at Peru鈥檚 main airport in Lima.

The $950 million project at Jorge Ch谩vez International Airport, recently voted the best in South America, involves 700ha of land west of the existing terminal.

Peru is one of South America鈥檚 top performing economies and the Jorge Ch谩vez International Airport expansion will reflect Lima鈥檚 role as a major connection hub, said Grimshaw Partner, Andrew Thomas.

The practice has also started work on the $9 billion Istanbul Grand Airport project which it won with London-based Haptic, the Nordic Office of Architecture and Turkish architects GMW Mimarlik and Tekeli Sisa.

The team said terminal 1 at the new airport, on the Black Sea coast, will be the world鈥檚 largest airport terminal under one roof, with a gross floor area close to 1,000,000 sq m.
