26-storey residential tower by the Shard architect in London Bridge given the go ahead
Renzo Piano鈥檚 26-storey residential tower next to the Shard has been given planning permission.
The scheme by the architect, who also designed the Shard, comprises a 180,000 sq ft 26-storey residential building containing 148 1, 2, 3 and 4 bed apartments, a new public space, extensive landscaping and retail space.
The scheme had to be redrawn by Renzo Piano 好色先生TV Workshop after planners raised concerns about the cladding material, rooftop design, public realm and visual impact on the tower of Southwark Cathedral from the west.
The tower, the second of Piano鈥檚 so-called Shardette towers, is being developed by Sellar and REM, acting on behalf of LBQ Fielden Ltd - a joint venture between the State of Qatar and Sellar.
The new development will replace Fielden House, a 1950鈥檚 office building, on London Bridge Street located between The Shard and the 好色先生TV 好色先生TV, and 21-27 St Thomas Street, a 1990鈥檚 office block adjacent to Joiner Street and opposite Guy鈥檚 Hospital.
It is expected work will get underway on the new development at the end of next year with completion scheduled for the end of 2018.
