Hopkins-designed scheme will replace post-war offices
Hopkins has won planning for a 190-room hotel overlooking the Hyde Park Corner roundabout.
The Peninsula London will replace a 1950s and 60s office complex next to the Lanesborough with a similarly high-end hotel. It will also contain about 25 flats.
The hotel is a joint project by Grosvenor and Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels. Construction should start in summer 2017 and be complete by 2021.
The scheme鈥檚 鈥渁ffordable鈥 housing contribution will see 23 flats built on Buckingham Palace Road. This sparked an objection from the upmarket Goring Hotel whose garden they will overlook.
A pedestrian entrance on to Grosvenor Place will be partially set back behind a colonnade to mitigate against the heavy traffic. This will lead into a 30m x 30m courtyard which vehicles will reach from Grosvenor Crescent.
BDP is working on the public realm which will see pavements widened and trees planted on Grosvenor Crescent and Halkin Street, the two side streets flanking the hotel.
