The government has given the green light to the 拢242m redevelopment of Broadmoor Hospital.

The Department of Health said it had approved West London Mental Health NHS Trust鈥檚 拢242m redevelopment plans for Broadmoor Hospital in Berkshire and a 拢60m medium secure unit (MSU) at St Bernard鈥檚 Hospital in Ealing.

As 好色先生TV revealed in July, Kier won the 拢115m job to redevelop Broadmoor.

The scheme involves the replacement of outdated Victorian buildings with new purpose-built hospitals, with the construction of 10 new wards in addition to six existing ones.

The two-year redevelopment programme at St Bernard鈥檚 Hospital in Ealing involves the construction of a new 80-bed medium secure unit.
