Consultant project manager on the 拢400m media centre for the 2012 Olympics
Gleeds has been appointed to work as project manager on the 拢400m media centre for the 2012 Olympics, it is understood.
The news emerged a week after the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) signed a deal for a consortium that includes Carillion and Igloo to build the 1.3 million ft2 centre.
The consortium had been expected to win the deal for months, but it is understood the signing of the contract was delayed over issues with the building鈥檚 legacy use.
Tom Russell, group director for Olympic legacy at the London Development Agency, said the appointment was a 鈥渟ignificant milestone鈥 in its goal to attract businesses and jobs to the area.
The ODA said today that the international broadcast centre and main press centre hub would be transformed into mixed-use office and business space after the Games, providing a legacy of more than 8,000 jobs in Hackney. It expects construction to start next spring.
Gleeds could not confirm the appointment.
