Plans include more than 600 homes
Galliard Homes and Catalyst have launched a joint venture to deliver a mixed-use slice of the redevelopment of the former Wimbledon dog track.
The partnership between the developer and the housing association will develop 604 new homes and around 18,000 sq ft of commercial space at the south-west London site.
The development, which secured planning approval in December last year, includes both private residential and shared ownership apartments, as well as a new 11,000-seater stadium for League One side AFC Wimbledon on Plough Lane.
The JV also plans to deliver 177 affordable homes, which is more than 30% of the entire development.
This goes beyond the 10% statutory amount set by Merton council.
The scheme, which has been designed by architects Sheppard Robson and Wilson Owens Owens, will also see the delivery of a new fitness facility, retail space and a town square.
Ground works will start this month, with main construction starting in the autumn. Completion of the residential units is expected early 2021.
The JV, which will be a partnership between Galliard Homes and a subsidiary of Catalyst, will manage the construction of both residential units and public realm.
