Renowned Canadian-American architect will work with Lord Foster on new high street
designing the next phase of the Battersea Power Station redevelopment.
The pair will draw up plans for the development of a new high street on the south side of the Power Station, running either side of the planned Northern Line underground station.
It will be Gehry鈥檚 first project in London. The Pritzker-Prize-winning architect is famed for designing Los Angeles鈥 Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Guggenheim Bilbao.
The third phase of the project will comprise 1,200 residential units, a 200 room hotel, 350,000 sq ft of retail and restaurant space, a 15,000 sq ft library and a new town square.
Gehry Partners will design the residential buildings to the east of the high street and Foster + Partners will design the residential buildings to the west. Both architectural practices will collaborate on the other high street projects.
Frank Gehry, founder of Gehry Partners commented, said: 鈥淕ehry Partners is honoured to have this wonderful opportunity to collaborate with our respected colleagues Foster + Partners on this seriously important project for the city of London.
鈥淥ur goal is to help create a neighborhood and a place for people to live that respects the iconic Battersea Power Station while connecting it into the broader fabric of the city.
鈥淲e hope to create a design that is uniquely London, that respects and celebrates the historical vernacular of the city.鈥
