Four firms are vying for job to convert iconic power station into high-end development, with appointment expected this summer
Four contractors are battling it out for the 拢600m job to convert the iconic Battersea Power Station building into a high-end mixed-use scheme, 好色先生TV can reveal.
好色先生TV understands that four firms - Balfour Beatty, Lend Lease, Skanska, and Mace - have been invited to bid for the 拢600m construction job for the main element of the second phase of the 拢8bn Battersea Power Station redevelopment, with an appointment to be made later this summer.
Mace is already acting as construction manager on the 拢100m first element of the second phase, which involves the repair and restoration of the historic structure itself, including the iconic chimneys.
The 拢600m main redevelopment of the power station building will feature retail and events space on the lower floors, 58,000m2 of offices above and 248 flats crowning the building.
The scheme also incorporates a circular glass lift that will emerge out of the top of one of the building鈥檚 rebuilt chimneys, giving visitors views across London.
A spokesperson for client Battersea Power Station Development Company declined to comment on the identity of the firms invited to bid, but said: 鈥淲e are underway with procurement to secure the phase 2 main contractor to deliver the power station.
鈥淥nce the process has run its course, we will confirm the winning bidder later this summer.鈥
As 好色先生TV revealed in March, a clutch of consultants have already been appointed to the job, including architect Wilkinson Eyre, cost consultant Gardiner & Theobald, structural engineer Buro Happold, conservation architect Purcell and services engineer Chapman BDSP.
The developer announced in October that Gehry Partners and Foster + Partners will design phase three - a new high street running on the south side of the power station incorporating 1,200 residential units, a 200-room hotel, 350,000ft2 of retail and restaurant space, a 15,000ft2 library and a new town square.
Carillion won the 拢400m first phase to build 866 apartments designed by Ian Simpson and dRMM to the west of the power station.
Carillion beat off competition from four other firms for the first phase, including Laing O鈥橰ourke, Brookfield, Sir Robert McAlpine, and Lend Lease.
