PLP and Allies and Morrison among the winners
Native Land has appointed four architects to develop designs for the next phase of its £1bn Bankside Yards project on London’s South Bank.
Multiplex is expected to be appointed main contractor for the Western Yards scheme which is being built on the former Ludgate House office block, built in 1989 and opened by former prime minister Margaret Thatcher.
It was torn down by McGee which has been carrying out work at Sampson House, a 1970s brutalist building previously used as a data centre.
The Sampson House site, on the other side of the railway line that runs in and out of London’s Blackfriars station, has been renamed Eastern Yards with PLP, Make, Allies and Morrison and Stiff + Trevillion all now appointed to design buildings on this plot.
The site, which was granted a new planning consent earlier this year, will include 341 homes, 70,000ft2 of workspace, around 1.5 acres of public open space and 8,000ft2 of cultural space.
PLP, which is also the masterplanner for Eastern Yards, will work on designs for building five, the tallest on this phase at 34-storeys.
It will include a 126-bed hotel and 58 apartments and two high level restaurants with a public square and retail at the bottom.
Make is drawing up designs for building four, a 20-storey residential building while Allies and Morrison has been appointed to building seven, a 30-storey scheme which will include 184 homes.
Stiff + Trevillion will develop designs for building nine, an eight-storey commercial building.
PLP is also working on the Western Yards part of the development, which includes a 49-storey residential tower.
The Bankside Yards scheme, which is being funded by a mixture of Malaysian and Singaporean investors, will also include revamping 14 railway arches in the area to make way for 50,000 sq ft of retail, leisure and cultural space.
