Big names make 15-strong shortlist
UK practices including Foster + Partners, David Chipperfield and Amanda Levete are all in the hunt for a museum scheme in Hungary.
Also on the shortlist for the job to create a new base for the Hungarian Museum of Transport in the capital Budapest are former Stirling Prize winner Caruso St John Architects, Perkins + Will and one of the firms behind the new Google headquarters building in London鈥檚 King鈥檚 Cross, Bjarke Ingels Group.
The 15 teams also include Diller Scofidio & Renfro is US practice which last autumn won a competition to design a new home for the London Symphony Orchestra, earmarked for the current home of the Museum of London near the Barbican.
The museum said 11 of the shortlisted firms had been invited to enter the competition, while a further four had been added following a call for expressions of interest last month that generated 90 valid applications.
Museum general director D谩vid Vit茅zy said the project to transform part of the Northern Maintenance Depot in Budapest would be one of Europe鈥檚 most ambitious brownfield regeneration programmes. The 7ha site is a former railway works.
A winner is due to be announced next February.
