Architect says S茫o Paulo base demonstrated 鈥榗ommitment鈥� to local relationships
Foster + Partners has revealed that it is opening an office in the Brazilian city of S茫o Paulo.
The practice has been active in the country for a number of years, but said the new office demonstrated 鈥渁 commitment to investing in local partnerships and strengthening relationships with local architects and consultants鈥�.
The news came to the nation at the end of last week.
Fosters has a number of high-profile projects ongoing in Brazil, including the redevelopment of an entire city block in the Jardins district of S茫o Paulo, as well as a 20,000 m2 brownfield redevelopment project elsewhere in the city.
The practice said it was working on a sustainable masterplan and mixed-use office scheme within Rio de Janiero鈥檚 Porto Maravilha redevelopment zone, in addition to other potential opportunities elsewhere in the nation.
Foster + Partners chief executive Mouzhan Majidi said the opening of the Brazil office underscored the significance of future work in the country, which is due to host the 2016 Olympic Games.
鈥淏razil is one of the most important emerging markets with huge potential for future development and with our skills and expertise, particularly in the field of infrastructure, sustainability and masterplanning,鈥� he said.
鈥淲e are eager to bring our ability to innovate to this new market.鈥�
Trade and investment minister Lord Green said trade between the UK and Brazil had increased by one quarter during the past two years and that its fast-growing economy offered 鈥渕any opportunities鈥�.
