The number of construction fatalities continues to rise as five workers die on sites during August
Five workers have died in separate incidents on construction sites during August.
On Wednesday 15th, a worker was found dead in a lift shaft in a central London office development. He was employed by fit-out contractor Swift Horsman, but has not been named.
A day earlier, Shropshire builder Mark Evans was killed when the roof of a school he was helping to demolish collapsed in Richards Castle, Ludlow.
On Monday 6th, Stephen Griffiths suffered a fatal fall from scaffolding at the Watermark Place development in Upper Thames street in the City Of London. Later that week James Gordon, an employee of EDF Energy, fell to his death from scaffolding at Worthing High School in Sussex.
In Manchester on August 1, Jan Tobolski, a Polish worker for B&S Construction died after being hit by a metal girder.
Peter Hain, the work and pensions secretary, is holding an industry health and safety forum on September 17 to discuss how to address the rising number of construction-related fatalities.
