Architect completes feasibility study for Morecambe 鈥檓ussels鈥
Grimshaw has released the first images of its Eden Project North proposal for Morecambe in Lancashire.
It would be the first UK Eden Project since the original opened in Cornwall in 2001, though Grimshaw 鈥 the original architect 鈥 is also working on a string of Edens in China.
The Morecambe seafront project looks strikingly different from St Austell鈥檚 biomes, with crescent-shaped pavilions which are said to be inspired by mussels.
Each structure could house different environments, with a focus on the marine environment.
The proposed location on Morecambe鈥檚 seafront was previously occupied by the Bubbles swimming pool and Dome theatre.
Eden completed a feasibility study in September and is now seeking funding to make the project a reality.
The environmental charity presented new images and details to its northern partners, the Lancashire Enterprise Partnership, Lancaster University, Lancashire County Council and Lancaster City Council.
Dave Harland, chief executive of Eden Project International, said: 鈥淲e鈥檙e incredibly proud to present our vision for Eden Project North and hope that the people of Morecambe and the surrounding area are as excited about it as we are.
鈥淲e aim to reimagine what a seaside destination can offer, with a world-class tourist attraction that is completely in tune with its natural surroundings.
鈥淢orecambe is a unique and beautiful location, perfectly situated near the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales.鈥
