Architect gets planning permission for hotel and residential development
Squire and Partners' has got planning persmission for a hotel and residential scheme in Liverpool.
The scheme is within the Paradise Project, masterplanned by Cesar Pelli, which is located between Albert Dock and the Three Graces.
The structure of this pre cast masonry building is based on a repetitive module planned around the geometry of a curve. The curve allows for the maximum degree of repetition of individual components while achieving a grand sweep of elegant proportions.
Between the first and fifth floors the facade is more solid and contains the windows of hotel rooms. By contrast the sixth floor, the hotel's executive level, has floor-to-ceiling glazing and stone fins. Beyond that, the columns continue up the building to support the top three floors, which form a loggia of residential apartments with a sequence of opaque and translucent glazing.
On the park side, the building expands into a lightweight single storey pavilion and contains publicly accessible space. This contains the bar and restaurant, as well as a cafe which opens up into the park during the summer months.
