Architect sees off competition from six other firms
Architect Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios has been appointed to conduct a major redesign of London鈥檚 Southbank Centre.
The architect saw off competition from rival firms OMA, Grimshaw Architects, Allies & Morrison, Heneghan Peng, Eric Parry and van Heyningen & Haward to win a place on the 拢43m job.
The firm will design the refurbishment of galleries, performance space and back stage areas in the complex, including redesigning access and upgrading services.
It will also develop plans to reclaim underused space in the complex to deliver a more flexible platform for the centre鈥檚 festival programmes.
Rick Mather, Southbank Centre鈥檚 masterplan architect and a member of the selection panel, said: 鈥淲e heard a huge amount of high quality and serious thinking demonstrating seven quite different approaches to this part of the site.
鈥淔eilden Clegg Bradley Studio鈥檚 proposals won because they best understood the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Purcell Room and Hayward Gallery complex and how it can be enjoyed and used more effectively.鈥
